Rose Watch '09: It's budding! :o)

Well, i'm happy to report that the rose is budding nicely! They're quite small at the moment so i'm hoping that the greenfly situation doesn't stop them developing properly... I'm really pleased with how many there are though :o) (that is rose buds and NOT greenfly!)

Greenfly are a pest arn't they, especially on roses. I've found that if you snip off one or two of the buds when they are clustered like that, that you get better blooms. Val

Thanks for the tip Valeri - it makes good sense, although I'm not sure if I can bring myself to do it! I'll have to have a strong cup of tea first :o)

Glad to hear your rose is coming along well.
I have to move one of my roses to a sunnier area, any tips ?

The buds are looking good ;-) No, they are not greenfly ha ha. I am sure the flowers would be beautiful too. Happy gardening!

Brad: Hmmmm... good question - not sure i'm able to advise really since I'm gardening in pots. My instinct would be to wait until it was dormant again in the autumn/winter/early spring. Maybe Valeri (see post above) might have a suggestion - she seems to have roses of her own... Do you HAVE to move it now?

Thank you Flora,
I'm not in a rush. I planted it three years ago in a sunny spot where it thrived. I'm not permitted to cut the trees that have grown to shadow it.
Thank you for suggesting I wait till it goes dormant.
I'm a beginner with roses. :)

To deter greenfly, soak cigarette ends in water then spray them with the resulting nicotine juice.

I would love to have roses in my garden. I wonder if there are any miniature varieties that my thrive inside on a sunny windowsill?...
